Helping those less fortunate

Must read

A MAINTENANCE planner who works at Collinsville Coal is once again gearing up for the annual Postie Bike Safari, for the third year running.

Kyle Large, 33, will be riding his trusty postie bike on a seven-day adventurous journey, for a very good cause – Childhood Cancer Support.

Every year, the postie crew gathers to traverse regional Queensland on their Postie bikes, covering approximately 2,000kms over a week.

Through donations, raffles and auctions, they’ve supported numerous charities, with Childhood Cancer Support being the beneficiary once again this year.

In 2023, they achieved a record fundraising amount of $164,400 for the cause.

Mr Large, who was born in Proserpine and now lives in Bowen, said doing his first ride was a ‘spontaneous decision’.

“What began as a spontaneous decision has evolved into a cornerstone of my yearly plans, ensuring I carve out time to contribute as much as possible towards raising awareness and funds,” Mr Large said.

“My journey into participation began as an adventure when my friend Steve Tregear invited me along. He needed a licensed rider for his learners, and I gladly joined in.

“However, as the days unfolded and I witnessed the joy on the faces of young children and their families, I realised this was more than just a ride.

“It became clear that I wanted to be part of this for as long as possible. I’ve always tried my best to help those less fortunate and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever been a part of.”

The upcoming ride will start from Mackay, on Saturday, August 24, 2034, and conclude back in Mackay, on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

The route includes stops at lakes around Central Queensland, such as Maraboon, Awonga, and Monduran, for overnight stays and exploration.

The event will culminate with a celebratory dinner for riders and their families.
