THE GRAND finale of the 2024 Whitsundays Writers Festival (September 6-8) will be a long lunch, mingling and engaging in casual conversation with local authors.
The Whitsundays Writers Festival has announced the speaker line-up for the Local Author Long Lunch, which will be the festival’s special closing event.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with all our featured local authors in providing them a national platform to share their creativity, their journeys, and introduce readers to their new and important Australian stories,” festival president Karen Jacobsen said.
“The Local Author Long Lunch will be a fitting end to proceedings, a celebration and showcase of the writing journey of some of the festival’s featured local authors.”
The event is open to everyone and will be held from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Sunday, September 8, at the Whitsunday Marine Club, Cannonvale, with lunch provided by Coastal Food Design.
Five local authors have been selected to be showcased at the event, each demonstrating a variety of genres, writing careers, and connectivity to the Whitsundays.
Attendees will hear from:
- RACHEL ARMSTRONG award winning North Queensland contemporary romantic fiction author
- LORIE BRINK lives in Townsville and writes action-adventure books, with her debut novel to be launched at the festival
- HARRY COLFER is an experienced critical care paramedic and has published a murder-mystery, two action-adventure thrillers, and a collection of short stories
- A.L. TIPPETT wrote her first novel at twelve and writes urban fantasy novels, with one featuring Bowen’s Big Mango
- MONIQUE VAN TULDER is a Shute Harbour resident and a lifestyle and travel writer for ‘slow and curious’ travellers.
“We have fourteen local authors joining the festival, in total, each with their own amazing, distinct creative talents. We can’t wait for festival attendees to meet them and discover their stories,” Ms Jacobsen said.
Throughout the festival program, attendees will have multiple opportunities to meet and learn more about the featured local authors.
Ms Jacobsen will also officially close the festival at the Local Author Long Lunch, outlining key highlights from the festival and revealing plans for future festivals.
The Whitsundays Writers Festival is dedicated to fostering creativity, dialogue and appreciation for the written word.
The Local Author Long Lunch is proudly supported by Bendigo Community Bank Cannonvale-Proserpine and the Regional Arts Development Fund, a Queensland Government and Whitsunday Regional Council partnership to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
