PROSERPINE could be getting a new police station if proposed plans are approved.
The Queensland Police Service is proposing to designate land for the Proserpine Police Station and Courthouse at 15 Main Street, Proserpine.
The project includes the demolition of the existing police station and watch house to facilitate development, and then the development of a replacement single-storey police station.
The existing courthouse, courthouse carport and police residences on site will be retained.
Also included in the plans is provision for three vehicle crossovers, to Mill Street, and 14 new car parking bays.
The development would mean an increase in staff capacity to 21 staff and also the capability to operate 24/7.
The facility will provide emergency response capability, which meets the current and projected demand for services within Proserpine and the wider Whitsunday region.
The proposal has been submitted as a request for a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID), under the Planning Act 2016.
The MID proposal can be viewed at www.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/mid-consultations.
