Five Year Plan for District
Proserpine Chamber of Commerce commissioned a five-year plan to ensure advantage was taken of the potential of developments, such as the Dam and the Condor Oil Project. Marketing opportunities to promote tourism must not be missed.
Bride Of the Year
Kim Botto, nee Large, was crowned Bride of the Year, with runner-up bride Sandra McLellan. Bridesmaid of the Year was Leah Churchward.

Alison Lucas will play in the McDonald’s International Challenge, in Brisbane. This will be a boost for tennis in North Queensland.
Strong Case for Road to Collinsville
The Chamber of Commerce outlined a strong case for this new road, to open up two-way links between Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine.
90th Birthday Party.
Mrs. M.E. Crossley enjoyed a birthday party in her honour at the foot of Mt Julian. Mrs. Crossley has 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Junior Soccer
Proserpine hosted Under 10 Southern Zone NQ Championships for teams from seven areas. Moranbah won the championship including a 3-1 closely fought win against Proserpine.
Sponsored Wheelchair Passes Through Town
29-year-old quadriplegic Eddie Watts drove his motorised wheelchair through Proserpine, on his way around the country raising money for the Australian Spinal Research Foundation and, at the same time, showing that severely disabled people can accomplish physically demanding feats.
Record Race to Montes
A record fleet of 30 boats raced to Montes, on Saturday. The cruising section was won by ‘Chapter Seven’ skippered by Herb Secombe.
Fun Race Weekend
Airlie Beach Rotary released information on stalls, floats and entertainment for the biggest event of the year, the Mardi Gras, in mid-September.
Whistlers – In Their Thousands
A huge flock of Grass Whistler Birds have decided to nest and feed in an area bound by the Bruce Highway and Renwicks Lane. It is described as a brown, slow moving cloud of cackling ducks.
Polocrosse Win
Proserpine’s ‘A’ Grade Polocrosse team won the final of the Championship, beating Townsville 16-10. 25 teams from 11 clubs enjoyed an enjoyable action packed weekend in town.
Rugby Union
Proserpine Airlie Beach Raiders beat Slade Point 4-3.
Soccer
Whitsunday Knights win the Mackay Shield in a 10-team carnival.
Rugby League
Whitsunday Wizards beat Mackay Sea Eagles 8-6.
