 Proserpine’s Fire Brigade

Top Team. Proserpine won the Area 2 competition honours under Chief Fire Officer Dick Shoebridge and team manager Val Hinschen.

Area 2 includes all the fire brigade areas from Ingham to Mackay including a team from Airlie Beach, who also enjoyed themselves.

Of the four events, Proserpine won two, tied for first place in the third, and came second in the fourth.

Jumped from Crossing Smash

At 8pm, a Proserpine man’s car stalled on the freight train crossing on Rileys Road Up River. The driver managed to jump clear before his car was crushed by a train travelling North.

Obituary

Agusta Ella Jeppeson, 83, died in hospital last week. Mrs Jeppeson had been a long-time resident of the Bloomsbury Area. Her family owned the ‘Taranga’ property.

Chengody Stars In XXXX Titles

Local halfback star Peter Chengody steered North Queensland to a 16-9 win over South Queensland in the XXXX rugby union Championships, in Townsville, with a man of the match performance.

First Official Night Harvesting

This began for the first time in Proserpine with a double shift from the Up River Harvesting Company, complying with all the safety measures required by Unions and Main Roads.

Hayman Island Closed

The Island was closed for a 100-million-dollar redevelopment programme into a sophisticated island offshore playground.

Year 12 City-Country Excursion

Year 12 students Dino Zaupa, Carole Spencer and Andrew Stevens, among several others, undertook painting tasks at the Nursing Home to earn money for their trip to Brisbane.

Scouts Rewarded

Rotary Club President Dan Spencer presented Proserpine Scout Group Leader Alan Hobson with a cheque in recognition of Scouts’ help cleaning the Showgrounds after the Show.

Two Day Pottery

A successful pottery workshop was held at Cannonvale Community Centre under sculptor/potter Janna Patmeyer, from Brisbane.

Bike-a-thon

Proserpine Lions Journey for Sight organised a successful bike-a-thon to Crystalbrook and back, on Saturday morning. Forty cyclists turned out including Pam Stevens, who pedalled all the way on her tricycle.
