Anzac Day

Guest of honour was ex padre of the 2/AIF in Tobruk, Fr. Gard, who spoke of privileges and freedoms being swept away, had Australians not fought in World Wars, and warned against casting off ties with our greatest ally, the United States.

Obituary

Robert Riddell Bolam died, aged 61, having been nursed for a long time by his devoted wife Una.

Norman Johns died, in Brisbane, aged 85. He was brother-in-law to former owner/operator of the Eldorado Cinema, Bill Ironside.

Nine Day Working Fortnight

This was agreed for Council office workers by the MOA and the Council.

Funds For Council Youth Worker

Substantial State grants have been approved for the appointment of a Youth Worker for Proserpine but also a Council contribution was being sought, which would assist young people in the area to cope with the many problems facing them today.

Rates Paid by Bankcard

This was suggested by Cr. Botto. The Shire Clerk commented that rates would have to be raised to meet added costs.

Marina at Muddy Bay

It was decided that more time was needed for comment. There was a need to increase public awareness of what was being planned.

International Airport?

Council was considering the extension of Proserpine Airport to international standards including lengthening and widening the runway. The Shire Clerk would make preliminary enquiries.

New Management for South Molle

Well liked managers for the last four years, Alan and Fran Anderson, have been replaced by Steve and Fiona McMullen.

Whitsunday Archery

Andy Dinnie topped Sunday’s FITA Shoot with 1070, followed by Bill Dinnie with Michael Jameljanenko in third place.

Airlie Bloods

The Bloods recorded an easy win against Ayr. Doug Murray is currently looking to join the Mackay league for opposition. The next game is against Bowen Roos at Cannonvale School grounds.

Debutant Ball

In a magnificent display of tradition, a record 26 debutantes were presented to the Bishop of North Queensland at the Anglican Debutante Ball.

Weetalaba camp draft

The Whitsunday branch of the Australian Stock Horse Society had a successful camp draft over two days. Glen Gough won the open draft.

Rugby Union

Proserpine Raiders beat Slade Point 14-4.
