Aerial Mapping of Proserpine Area

For several days, a small helicopter will be conducting an aerial survey of this region in order to produce a map of a much larger scale of 1 to 25,000 as against current maps, which are 1 to 100,000. Access to all parts of the rugged terrain will be encountered.

New Furniture and A Bus For PATCH

Wally Hinschen, the manager of Proserpine Activity and Therapy Centre for the Handicapped, announced the arrival of a new bus, new furniture and equipment, purchased with a government grant and funds raised by Proserpine Lions. The centre currently caters for 16 clients.

Faces of the 80s

Local girls Kerry Foot and Lisa Marquet appeared in the Faces of the 80s quest, in Brisbane, last Sunday. The quest is in aid of Queensland Cancer Fund.

Senator Flo Visits Town

The local Women’s National Party welcomed Senator Flo Bjelke-Peterson at their luncheon as speaker. Senator Flo was also interviewed by some high school students.

Proserpine’s Alpha Epsilon Chapter

The chapter elected incoming president Mrs. Pat Mengel. Pat chose this year’s theme as ‘Community, Caring, Health and Harmony’.

Hayman Island Construction

The island is due to close for nine months to expedite building work. It will reopen in April1986 as ‘Ansett International Hotel’ after a $100 million facelift.

Reef Gateway Hotel

The Cannonvale Hotel, which was opened less than six months ago, is to be auctioned in Brisbane next month.

‘Proserpine Day’ at New Farm Park

A meeting of Proserpine identities living in Brisbane brought together a happy group with families such as Magnetti, Demartini, Stanley, Usher, Camm and Ironside and many others coming together.

Ladies Squash

An exciting finish for finalists saw Di Crossley’s team in first place, just in front of Ros Gardel’s team.

Foley Shield

Whitsunday Wizards take on Shield champions Mackay, next Sunday. Despite losing the last three encounters with Mackay, coach Luchi Gardel is predicting a surprising improvement.

Union Boys Unbeaten

The local Rugby Union team retained their unbeaten record with a 27-3 win over City, in Mackay.

Soccer

Whitsunday Knights won both division matches against Mackay Wanderers, at the High School Oval.
