The Karate Class on Show

Instructor Wayne Hinschen is seen demonstrating a fine high kick in front of his squad, which he put through numerous exercises. Putting their best foot forward, or sideways as the case may be, the Proserpine Karate Club entertained in Main Street, on Saturday morning.

Billy Carts

If there is one thing that every Australian boy has in his childhood years, it is a billy cart and, at 8am this Saturday, at the Harvest Festival in Main Street, all lads had a chance to show off their latest models in the Billy Cart Derby. This was organised by the Bush Children’s Association and all proceeds went to this worthy cause. Outright winners were Shane Matthews and Stephen Walsh, who had a splendid free-wheeling machine.

Tom Hill Triumphs Again

Tom Hill successfully defended his Policeman’s Cup, in the Publican’s Special Race, at the festival in Main Street, on Saturday.

Baton Twirling

The Proserpine Baton Twirlers had the audience at the Harvest Fair absorbed in their every move, when they skilfully twirled their fiery batons in time with the music.

Sandra Dinnie – Harvest Queen

Twenty-one-year-old Sandra Dinnie, a qualified beautician and cosmetician employed at Chandler’s Pharmacy, by whom she was sponsored, was just a little overcome when she was chosen as Harvest Queen for 1984 – a joyful occasion for her and her family.

Home Moving Ahead

Following the grant of $508,000 to the Proserpine Nursing Home committee, the project is moving ahead, with engineers and architects engaged to draw up plans.

Cup Day at the Cultural Hall

The full and colourful attendance designated as ‘Gambling Girls Galore’ were greeted by MC for the occasion, Mrs Agnes Pini. Some splendid entertainment was presented by our local Live Theatre Group, in a rousing revue entitled ‘A Salute to Australian Punters’. There was an award for the best dressed person and also for the lady wearing the colours of the winning jockey, maroon and white on this occasion. Proceeds were shared equally between the nursing home and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Wild Storms

Wild storms have continued rampaging around the skies over the last week, with some brilliant lightning displays but only scattered rain, with mini floods hitting small, isolated pockets here and there.
