Ambulance Committee

In his report, Mr John Jemmett, Ambulance Committee Chairman, commented on the work of Superintendent John Klohs and his dedicated staff. He extended thanks to the staff, the Honorary Bearers, the Whitsunday Benefit Committee and all who helped throughout the year.

Flower Show

Friday’s Flower Show, an eagerly awaited annual event, organised by the ladies of St James Uniting Church, was shown at the Cultural Hall for the first time and proved a record-breaking event.

Airlie All Sports Open

The old Skate and Squash Centre, renamed Airlie All Sports, was a hive of activity on Sunday for its opening. Within a fortnight they expect to be able to offer to the public: Indoor cricket, a gym, a sauna, a spa, roller-skating, three squash courts, a kiosk and undercover parking. 

 Make Mega-Knots

Crafty people will be happy to know TAFE has organised a macramé class, which will be conducted by Sonia Grevell, commencing on Thursday at 7.30pm, at the Guide Hut.

Computer Winner

Cec Carpenter, from Coastal Computer Services, won the Queensland Dealer of the Year award, at the Tandy Electronics’ convention.

Twinkling Twirlers

Proserpine’s own Baton Twirlers – twenty-five pretty girls aged from six to sixteen, forming one of only six such groups in Queensland – will entertain at Saturday’s Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras Skydivers

Spectators can be thrilled at the sight of Whitsunday’s first lady skydivers – eight skydivers in the air at once – executing a variety of traditional manoeuvres and some innovations of their own.

Re-opening of Wildlife

Bob Pomeroy’s bush songs fitted in so well with the lovely bushland setting at the re-opening of the Jubilee Pocket Wildlife Restaurant.

Bride of the Year

The Bride of the Year competition, at the Proserpine Cultural Hall, saw a bevy of beauties displaying their beautiful gowns to an audience of over 300 women. The $2,500 raised will be put to good use by the kindergarten.

Polocrosse

Proserpine defeated Bohenia11 (19/18) in the B-grade finals and the cup was ours – with the last goal scored in the last three seconds.

Whitsunday Fun Run Visitor

John Sieben, Ambassador for Queensland Tourism in the USA and Australian Olympic Gold Medallist at the LA Olympics, will visit for the Whitsunday Village Fun Race Weekend.
