Water Hopes Stirred

Announcement concerning funding for the Proserpine River Dam during budget releases sent a buzz of excitement through the district.

On a personal note, Cr Faust said he wanted it understood that he was in no way against the dam proposal, even though its waters will inundate much of his family’s property.

Bridge Opening

State member for Whitsunday Mr Geoff Muntz cut the ribbon and unveiled the plaque to officially open the new O’Connell River Bridge.

Ranger Guides at Whitehaven

Ranger Guides were attending their Moot at Cool Palms for a fortnight. Last Wednesday was their Service Day. They spent time assisting the elderly residents of Whitehaven by cleaning down their units and tidying yards and lawns. Pat Daly’s school bus provided transport.

Two Wins for a Vintage Car

Phillip Taylor, driving his 1924 Model T Ford, won first place in the Gymkhana ‘Zigzag’ event, in Mackay, and also gained the popular vote for best vehicle.

Another $1,200 for the Nursing Home

Mrs Edna Clarke, on behalf of the National Party women’s section, presented the $1,200 cheque to Nursing Home president Mrs Gwyn Johns. It was the proceeds from the recent Bridal Extravaganza, held at the Cultural Hall.

Wreck Towed in Paper Chase

Rev Bruce Sweet, the Uniting Church Regional Education Officer, and Graham Huth of Ipswich, are driving the car as part of the ‘Pray and Stay Alive in ‘85’ road safety campaign.

In Proserpine, Bruce and Graham will be leading a prayer meeting on October 1, at St James Uniting Church. All who are seriously concerned about the carnage on the roads are invited to attend.

Obituary

Louis Herbert (Lou) Jezard died at his Cannonvale home, on Monday night. Lou, aged 71, was a Proserpine businessman in the 1930s and 1940s before moving to Home Hill and then to Cannonvale.

Whitsunday Amateur Athletic Club

Members of the club won places in open1500 walk at Mirani titles: 1st Alan Whyte, 2nd Daren Hawken, 3rd Andrew Railton-Stewart. In all, 28 athletes from the Whitsunday Club won 28 medals.

Rugby League Presentation Night

This was held at the RSL Hall, last Friday evening. President Ken (Sars) Spencer thanked all supporters for a successful year. He thanked all trophy donors. Dot Hinschen and Elsie Magee were given a presentation in appreciation of work during the League Season. Several players received awards.
