All Their Own Work
Grade 7 students at St Catherine’s Convent School proudly held up the 48 squared, multi-coloured rug that they made at craftwork. All students contributed, some making several squares. The boys were instructed in needlework by some mothers. Mrs Irma Borellini joined the tapestry squares together. The rug was raffled at St Catherine’s Fete and was won by Mrs Mary Lewis.
End of Island Helicopter Service
After twenty years of service in this area, the last Ansett Sikorsky helicopter made the final flight from Hayman Island to Proserpine Airport, last Monday. A sad day and, as a farewell gesture, Captain Paul Stanton circled the town at 3.30pm.
Pet Parade at Cannonvale
Cats, dogs, budgerigars and lizards were carefully groomed and prettied up for the Pet Show at the Cannonvale State School last Saturday.
Deb of the Year
Miss Karen Reinke won the title of Deb of the Year at the ball organised by Proserpine Junior Soccer Club, last Friday night, at the Proserpine Cultural Hall. Her escort was Mervyn Dries.
Obituary
John Andrew Clancy, aged 64, resident of the area for a long time, died at his Airlie home last Monday. He worked for Telecom for many years.
Top Apprentice
Paul Oliver of Proserpine gained the highest marks in Queensland in his final year apprentice exams. Twenty-year-old Paul served his apprenticeship in light marine engineering with Proserpine Marine Centre.
Pre-School Fancy Dress Ball
This was held at the Proserpine Cultural Hall, last Thursday evening, from 7pm to 9pm. Teachers joined in this enjoyable night.
Golf
Last weekend, Saturday’s main event was mixed 4BBB Stableford. Jack and Di Dobbins won with 46, and Alex Smith and Di Krause were on 45. Trophy donors were Judith and Floyd Madill.
