A FAMILY business in Strathdickie is, yet again, sharing the spirit of Christmas through its creative statue of Santa.
Strathdickie Engineering has been decorating the end of Telford Road – where both their business and family cane farm is located – since 2015.
They have created a multitude of variations including a snowman and a Christmas tree, and Santa down a chimney, in a tinny and with his reindeer!
This year, Santa is in a train, as the cane logo is relevant to the area.
“We are always trying to think of something different,” Caroline said.
“It puts a smile on people’s faces every time they drive past and we do it for the kids, we didn’t ever think that people would love it so much!
“People are always asking in October ‘what are you making this year for Christmas?’ We normally tell them ‘a surprise’.”
Strathdickie Engineering is family business, started by Laurie and Carmel in 1984. Now their son Mike has three of his sons working for him.
Everyone gets involved with making the statue.
“It’s a family effort….we all enjoy being creative and we always have our thinking cap on for ideas on what we can come up with for the next year.
“There is a bit of work in it, trying to get it all together and then having to set it up and also making it safe.
“We started the Santa statues from our cane mulch bales that we make from the sugar cane farm – we like to make it from cane mulch bales.”
