SUNSHINE Coast Lightning players travelled to the Whitsundays, on Sunday, as part of the first weekend of the 2023 Suncorp Regional Tour.
Lightning hosted two netball clinics with more than 80 locals in attendance, participating in fun drills and skills, and of course an opportunity to ask questions and get the players’ signatures at the end.
Lightning vice captain Laura Scherian said the regional tours were always a highlight for her and her teammates.
“We really love these Suncorp Regional Tours and having the opportunity to get out to regional areas and deliver the sport that we love,” she said.
“Regional areas such as the Whitsundays don’t get opportunities like these as much as the metros, and they’re always so appreciative and we always have heaps of fun.
“These tours show young netballers that there’s a pathway for them and an opportunity for them to play at a high level.
“Lightning is the only regional team in the Suncorp Super Netball and we want to get out there and show young girls, who live in regional areas, there are opportunities to come and play.”
The Suncorp Regional Tour is part of Suncorp’s Team Girls program, that aims to encourage girls to build confidence and success together. It shines a light on the importance of sport and its many benefits in improving confidence.
Lightning will travel to Maryborough next weekend, on Saturday, August 5, followed by Barcaldine and Emerald August 19-20 to round out the 2023 tour.
