Tourism Whitsundays Update

Must read

By Interim CEO Aimee Cameron

JULY has been an exciting and busy month for the TW team as we navigate a period of transition and growth.

We’re kicking off a new campaign, gearing up to represent the region in the United States, well underway with the search for our new CEO, and saying a bittersweet farewell to one of our brightest stars.

This week we’re launching our next campaign, in Adelaide, to support Jetstar’s new direct service to the Whitsundays, which kicks off on September 1 and will give 1.8m people direct access to the region.

With backing from Whitsunday Coast Airport, we have launched a significant destination awareness campaign in Adelaide, rolling out awareness initiatives and planning some exciting activations to boost travel interest and awareness for the Whitsundays.

This comes at an exciting time for Whitsunday Coast Airport, as they have recently welcomed 500,000 annual passengers for the first time in its 73-year history.

Ben is heading to America for the Down Under Answers Summit, representing the Whitsundays alongside Tourism and Events Queensland.

Over the next 10 days, he’ll engage with trade partners and visit key cities including Seattle, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, and Fort Lauderdale.

The application period for our exciting CEO position is closing soon. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about tourism to steer TW into an exciting future.

While we seek our new leader, I have stepped in as Interim CEO. I’m dedicated to continuing the strong momentum TW has built for our members and the tourism industry.

Our committed team, guided by Chair Julie Telford and Deputy Chair Tom Young, is working diligently to ensure that both our members and the Whitsundays community receive the support they need.

And, lastly, we’re bidding farewell to Alyssa, who is leaving us after an incredible five years.

We’re deeply saddened to see her go, but immensely grateful for the energy, positivity, and creativity she brought to TW.

We’re excited to see what’s next in her journey and know she will be greatly missed.
