Celebrating our business community
The Whitsundays Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) congratulates the nominees and winners of the 2024 Whitsundays Business Awards.
This awards program, an extension to the Whitsunday Tourism awards, celebrates both individual and collective achievements and recognises new businesses alongside familiar names that continue to shine.
They are a fitting tribute to the region’s business resilience and innovation.
The Chamber was once again thrilled to be involved in the awards, in partnership with Tourism Whitsundays and Bowen Tourism & Business.
The Chamber’s next event will be the Annual General Meeting, open to all, 7.30am-9am Thursday, 7 November, at the Whitsunday Green Club, Cannon Valley.
Immediately following the AGM, they will host a lively discussion with some of the Whitsunday Business Award winners to learn more about their secrets to business success, recent challenges they’ve faced and overcome, and what is in store for the next few years.
Details for the AGM are online, including an invitation to consider joining the Board.
The Chamber welcomes nominations for the Board which must be received in writing 14-days prior to the AGM (on or by 31 October 2024).
If you would like to learn more about Board roles and responsibilities, please contact the Chamber for a confidential discussion.
October has been a busy month for the Chamber, having hosted a range of business events and opportunities such as Mental Health Check Up for Businesses, the hugely successful inaugural Whitsunday Jobs Fair, and last week’s seminar hosted by the Regional Jobs Committee on Generation Z.
The Generation Z Advantage, on October 22, 2024, was supported by the Chamber, which was proud to support the first seminar in the Greater Whitsunday Regional Jobs Committee Greater Businesses series.
The Generation Z Advantage: Boosting Business with Young Talent
The guest speaker was Sophie Renton, social researcher and manager director of McCrindle Research.
As businesses navigate rapid technological advancements and evolving societal norms, the influence of Generation Z (born 1995-2009) becomes increasingly significant.
This generation, characterised as digital natives, global awareness, and a commitment to social impact, brings valuable skills and fresh perspectives.
Today’s Intergenerational Workforce
According to McCrindle’s research, today’s workforce comprises of 12 per cent Baby Boomers, 27 per cent Generation X, 34 per cent Generation Y and 27 per cent Generation Z.
In 10 years’, this will shift to 19 per cent Generation X, 32 per cent Generation Y, 34 per cent Generation Z and 15 per cent Generation Alpha.
Businesses are now considering ways to engage and bring out the best in everyone, particularly in intergenerational teams where there are often differences in communication styles.
As well as differences in perceptions of work ethic, approaches to conflict resolution, technical proficiency, and employment flexibility.
Sophie’s advice is for all generations to ‘seek first to understand’ each other’s broad strengths and preferences.
The Regional Jobs Committee is coordinated by Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3).
