Whitsundays’ Federal MPs to re-stand in upcoming election

Must read

WHILE the exact date of the impending Federal Election has not yet been announced, it has been confirmed that both MPs representing the Whitsundays will stand again.

Andrew Willcox MP has been endorsed once again as the LNP Candidate for the seat of Dawson, which includes the Whitsunday Region.

And Michelle Landry, Federal Member for Capricornia, which includes Collinsville, has announced her endorsement to contest the seat of Capricornia for a fifth term.

Mr Willcox said he was ‘honoured’ to have been endorsed again as the LNP Candidate.

“It’s a privilege to be entrusted by the local party members, with a unanimous vote of confidence, and I am ready to work hard and fight even harder for the betterment of our region and our country,” Mr Willcox said.

“I understand my role is to represent the good people of Dawson in Canberra, and I am determined to fight for our fair share of funding and services.”

Mr Willcox said the upcoming Federal Election was ‘the most important one yet’.

“Australians will have the opportunity to elect a new and strong government, a Coalition government, who will get Australia back on track,” he said.

“No matter where you live in the electorate, I am committed to being a representative of the entire electorate of Dawson and growing a stronger future for all. I am not prepared to settle.

“Being the Federal Member is an important position to hold and, if I am given the honour of continuing in this role, I will give my all to the community I call home.”

Michelle Landry, meanwhile, said it had been ‘an absolute privilege’ to represent the people of Capricornia for the past four terms.

The Federal Member for Capricornia said she was ‘determined’ to continue delivering for the region and fighting for its fair share.

Ms Landry believes Capricornia cannot afford another three years of Labor’s inaction.

“Under an Albanese Labor Government, Australians have faced weaker leadership and worsening outcomes,” Ms. Landry said.

“(However) Capricornia has achieved unprecedented growth, with $7bn in investment secured under my leadership, something Labor could never deliver.”

Some of Ms Landry’s key achievements include:

• The Rockhampton Ring Road ($1.2bn) is underway, Walkerston Bypass ($181.83m) is complete, and Phillips Creek Bridge ($14.4m) construction is set to begin.

• The Rookwood Weir ($183.6m) is boosting agriculture.

• Rockhampton Airport has received $44m in upgrades, and Alliance Airlines’ Heavy Maintenance Hangar is creating local employment opportunities.

• Nebo Showgrounds Stage 1 is complete, enhancing the renowned Nebo Rodeo.

• The Fitzroy Community Hospice ($8.8m) is providing holistic, end-of-life care, and Mercy Aged Care’s $19.6m expansion will deliver additional beds.

• Multicap has opened new accommodation ($1.045m) for those with complex needs.

“These achievements highlight the LNP’s commitment to building a stronger, more resilient Capricornia but there’s still much more to do,” Ms Landry said.

“I’m ready to keep fighting for our community and delivering real outcomes that matter.”
