WHAT a great weekend it was for the Whitsunday Game Fish Club’s ‘Sweeties and Squires’ Fun Family Fishing Weekend, even with the wind and showers.
Nine ladies, 15 juniors and 10 ‘small fry’ anglers had a fun weekend (April 11-13) catching 75 fish from 18 different species.
Most fish were caught within 15 minutes from the boat ramp, and most were released with just a couple kept for dinner.
With so many close results it was hard to pick the winners.
Joint champions for the ladies were Tara D’Ambrosio and Sara Doolan, with runner-up Kristy Hoksbergen.
Champion junior female was Kirra Martin, closely followed by runners-up Jasmin Smith and Tia Galton.
Dual champion junior males were Reid Bitcon and Tanic Wallace, runners-up were Kurt Martin and Harry Best.
Small-fry champion males went to Angus Doolan and Tama Tenants, just pipping Benson Smith.
Champion small-fry female was Naomi Rutland, with a very impressive 74cm Permit caught at Cannonvale Beach.
Naomi said she needed a little help from Dad! Runner-up small-fry female was Imogen Doolan.
The fun family fishing weekend was put together by the Whitsunday Game Fish Club with help from the Game Fishing Association of Australia, The Stella Property Group, Tackle World Cannonvale, Anaconda, and Oceanic Tales.
Everyone was truly rewarded with beaming smiles all round and promises to be bigger and better next year.
