Busy week for Cannons

Must read

ANOTHER big week for the Cannonvale Cannons with 42 swimmers participating at Club Night, 19 competed at the Mirani LC Transition Meet, and three Cannons competed at Townsville Brothers’ carnival.

The coaches were very impressed that swimmers could back up their performances after two days of racing, last weekend.

Three Harland sisters swam extremely well in Townsville over the weekend. Indigo Harland, aged 6, swam really well in her 25m Backstroke and 25m Freestyle.

Koa, aged 8, was very excited with her three blue ribbons. She was first in her 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke.

Ruby, aged 10, was impressive. She swam PBs in all her races and came 2nd in her 50m Breaststroke.

The Cannons wished Don Algie ‘Happy Birthday’. Don thoroughly enjoyed his first carnival as a 10-year-old.

The highlight for the Cannons was the Skins events.

Jax Clayworth, Nelson Malady, Don Algie, Thomas Ganter and Isaac Pisaniello were selected for the swims and were extremely competitive in the Boys 8 -12 years Freestyle Skins.

Tora Delac had a super weekend. She was selected for the Girls Skins, swam 4PBs and her best events were her 100m Backstroke (1st) and 100m Freestyle (1st place).

Top performers include: Declan Dichiera, aged 9, had a successful carnival. He swam 4PBs and won four of his events.

Declan’s sister Maeve swam outstanding times. She swam a 14.12sec PB in her 25m Freestyle, a 3.56sec PB in her 25m Butterfly and a 7.67sec PB in her 25m Breaststroke.

Despite having a sore shoulder, Isabella Pisaniello swam extremely well. She swam 4 PBs and came 1st in her 50m Freestyle.

Zachary Trefz, aged 11, loves to race. He swam 3PBs and won his 50 Butterfly and 50m Backstroke.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated at Club Night on Wednesday and the carnivals on the weekend!

A big thank you to all the wonderful parents and volunteers, who help with officiating and managing the team.

Top weekend of racing

Meanwhile, the Cannonvale Cannons Swimming Club hosted a very successful swimming carnival, on the weekend of January 21 and 22, with 200 competitors.

Club Coaches Mark Erickson, Ken Crittenden and Shay Wilmot were very impressed with all the Cannons and how they performed.

According to Ken, 49 Cannonvale Cannons swam in 434 events and achieved 271 PBs, 19 Club Records, State and National qualifying times.

Congratulations to Eloise, Jy Parkinson, Remy Hedges, Jacob Bell, Don Algie and Jax Clayworth for setting new club records.

One of the highlights of the carnival for many of the Cannons were the Skins events and the opportunity to win cash.

Many of the Cannonvale Cannons swimmers were selected for the Skins – which is an elimination race that starts with six of the fastest swimmers in an age group – and did extremely well.

Top Performers who swam PBs in all their races include: Jacob Bell, Eloise Chegwidden, Harry Chegwidden, Declan Dichiera, Maeve Dichiera, Jack Ganter, Ruby Harland, Billie Jamieson, Lily Maher, Isabella Pisaniello, Max Smith, Molly Smith and Lukas Trevaskis.

Congratulations to new Cannons who swam extremely well over the weekend:  Miller Eaves, Murphy Jamieson, Alex Trefz, Zach Trefz, Indigo Harland, Dylan Reynolds and Andie Reynolds.

Well done to Gracie and Pippa Laguna, who did very well swimming in longer distances.
