Must read

THE BIG news this week, of course, is that we have a new councillor.

We only have seven councillors across the whole region and every councillor counts.

All seven will be voting on decisions at council meetings that will ultimately affect our lives, as the people who live, work and play here.

We have a relatively new Mayor, a new councillor and, coming soon, a new CEO (see story page 5).

Let’s hope everyone can pull together for the good of the region.

Meanwhile

If you’re not feeling festive already, jump in the car and take a look at some of the super Christmas decorations adorning houses, all over the region.

You can follow the trail on the map created by Whitsunday Regional Council during the Christmas Lights competition – visit www.yoursay.whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au. Plus, see story page 3.

A piece of trivia

Did you know that the Christmas carol â€˜Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’ (1739) is actually now sung to music written to commemorate Johann Gutenberg‘s invention of movable type printing?

According to Professor Wikipedia…

The carol first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems….a hundred years later, in 1840, Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg‘s invention of movable type printing.

It is this music, adapted by English musician William H. Cummings to fit the carol, that people sing today. Fascinating!

Happy holidays

We hope you have a wonderful festive season, whether you’re in the Whitsundays or having a holiday and/or visiting friends and family (not always a holiday!).
