Bowen Rail Company gets students ‘on track’

Must read

BOWEN Rail Company (BRC) took centre stage at the recent Proserpine Careers Expo to showcase the excitement, job security, and innovation a career with Queensland’s newest rail freight business offers.

BRC general manager Brendan Lane said the team was delighted to chat with, and answer questions from, secondary students, their parents, and members of the public about career pathways into rail.

“Opening doors for local people, young and old, is a big part of our corporate DNA, so it was a terrific chance for our team to talk with the students about the opportunities at Bowen Rail,” Mr Lane said.

“Naturally, everyone wants to get in the cab of one of our state-of-the-art locomotives and be a driver.

“But our business and industry offer well-paid, fulfilling careers for engineers, IT graduates, environmental managers, finance specialists, tradespeople, technicians and more.

“We didn’t have to sell the locals on the perks of living in the Whitsundays, but there was certainly a lot of interest in our lifestyle rosters and how our people can make the most of their downtime to enjoy the award-winning beaches, fishing, camping, dining, and entertainment all around us.

“We hope the expo sparked an interest in some of the attendees to pursue a career in the rail industry and we hope to see them applying for a role with BRC in the future.”
