CONTINUING with our Queensland Small Business Month theme, this week we shine the spotlight on AWB First Aid First.
Husband and wife team Andrew and Wendy Barker started the business in 2009, using their free time, after their full-time jobs, and weekends, to deliver first aid training to the Whitsunday community, from their home.
Now the team has grown, and the services provided have expanded, offering a wide range of services and products to the area.
Located on the Proserpine main street, they have a vast selection of first aid products for personal or business first aid kits.
They even offer onsite first aid kit servicing and replenishment, taking away the stress of keeping this valuable kit up to date in the workplace.
They are the Whitsundays First Aid Specialists, providing courses in Childcare First Aid, CPR, Low Voltage Rescue (LVR), Advanced Resuscitation and Advanced First Aid.
“We also provide first aid to sporting and community events,” Mr Barker said.
“We focus on everything first aid, from training, care of duty and supplies. We hold classes in our training room, but we also go out to businesses and teach them in their workplaces. We get to do scenario-based training with the team onsite.
“We would love to see the whole community first aid trained, making it safer for everyone.”
The team has been involved with teaching the younger generation, by visiting kindies, guides and scouts, teaching them some vital lifesaving tips.
This year they are considering running a Junior First Aid Awareness course over the school holidays, covering the basics such as how to roll someone into the recovery position, how to call an ambulance, and what to do with a snake bite patient.
Mrs Barker is looking to the future, with hopes to provide more vital services to the region.
“We would love to expand with another training room and grow our team,” she said.
“We love what we do, we enjoy helping the community.”
