CHRISTMAS is coming up fast!
In the words of the legendary movie elf (as played by Will Ferrell) ‘Santa’s coming…!’
He didn’t so much say it, as scream it, in the 2003 film of the same name, also starring veteran actor James Caan as his ‘dad’.
The film has everything – it’s about bringing the spirit back into Christmas and it’s also about reconnecting with family – and, of course, it has humour!
It’s also about giving, and it’s important to think outside the immediate family circle and give to others who are doing it tough this Christmas.
There are many organisations who can help facilitate giving to families in the area – the Salvos, St Vinnies, the Smith Family and the Neighbourhood Centres are all good starting points.
The cost of living has skyrocketed in the past year and some families are literally wondering how they are going to pull together a Christmas Day meal and a few presents for their kids.
A lot of residents would have taken off by now on holidays, to see friends and family, or maybe they’ve gone camping.
Queensland schools broke up last Friday, so those who are going, have gone; or are going to go soon.
For those of us who are staying over the ‘holiday season’, let’s hope we have time to get out and enjoy this amazing region we live in.
I certainly hope to go swimming in the enclosure on Cannonvale Beach when it’s high tide (check your local paper!) and for walks along the boardwalk, on Conway Beach and maybe in the rainforest (if I can drag myself away from the cricket).
In other news
The election for a new Division 2 councillor has been held and, with the result too close to call, it is going right down to the wire.
It looks so close, that recounts could be requested. We watch and wait for a result.
I wonder if it will come before Christmas.
As always, thanks for reading this newspaper.
