OFF WITH his head!
It’s one of the best headlines I’ve seen in ages.
It was, of course, referring to the fact that King Charles will not appear on the new $5 note.
It has sparked the old ‘Monarchy versus Republic’ debate!
Personally, I’m pleased to see the King’s head replaced with indigenous imagery and messaging.
What do you think? About the $5 note? About a Monarchy versus Republic?

Meanwhile
It seems something might finally be happening in terms of weather-proofing Hamilton Plains.
When I was younger, I thought it quite exciting that we would be cut off from Proserpine in the wet season, following a deluge.
It felt as if we were in our very own little corner of the world.
But now, at a more mature age, it’s not quite so amusing to be cut off from the hospital and the airport.
Let’s hope this is the first step on the path to flood-proofing Hamilton Plains – see story page 3.
Also in the news…
The alleged perpetrator of one of the most shocking incidents to ever occur in the Whitsundays has appeared in Bowen Magistrates Court again – see story page 5.
And on the other end of the spectrum (happy-sad) is the news that the Whitsundays has been named as a potential Whale Heritage Area – see story page 1.
There is so much happening around this great region.
If you have a story, please send it to news@whitsundaynews.net.au along with your phone number, and we will get in touch.
As always, thanks for reading this newspaper.
